Choices that will enhance your experience abroad… First, fight the urge to retreat and join the group activities and outings. Mixing, meeting new people and forcing yourself to become part of the community will help you. Initiate conversations with your student or their family members. Don’t always wait for them to ask you questions. Offer to help out in the house! It’s only a week and a few days….and this is a rare and valuable opportunity you’ve been given….so, take advantage of it!

Las Fallas An annual festival that ends on “Dia de San José” March 19th. (aka Father’s Day) All year, groups that are called “Fallas” (similar to the clubs for the Mummer’s) work to build monument structures that are satirical and critical of society. All monuments (called “Fallas”) are then judged and awarded prizes. “Ninots” are miniature monuments that also win prizes. Other activities such as the: desperta, mascleta, crema, desfile de flores, etc are part of the celebrations leading up to the 19th. (the crema is on the night of the 19th)
