Condicional The conditional is for hypothetical situations. You need to set your sentences/story up to be hypothetical.
Ejemplo If I arrived to the airport on time, I would fly on a plane to Mexico. I would sit in a seat and the flight attendant would serve me food. I would fly over the mountains. But, I did not arrive at the airport. Si llegara al aeropuerto a tiempo, yo volaría en un avión a México. Yo me sentaría en un asiento y la asistente de vuelo me serviría comida. Sobrevolaría las montañas. Pero, no llegué al aeropuerto.
Ejemplo You just found a wallet on the ground, what would you do? Acabas de encontrar una cartera en el piso, ¿qué harías tú? I would return it to the owner. Yo se la devolvería a su dueño.
