THE PRETERITE The preterite is used to express an action completed at a definite time in the past. This tense is usually referred to the past tense in English. In English, regular verbs in the past tense end in –ed. Yesterday we talked on the phone.

CONJUGATION FOR REGULAR –AR VERBS To conjugate a verb in the preterite (past): 1) remove the –ar (infinitive ending) from the infinitive 2) add the endings for the preterite tense according to the subject: -é-amos -aste-asteis -ó-aron ***notice the accents marks on 1 st and 3 rd person singular!!!***
