Stem changers in the present tense:  How do they work?  In some conjugations of the verb, a letter in the stem/root changes. Then they use the same endings as regular verbs.  Where do these stem changes happen?  In the “boot” (all but “nosotros” and “vosotros” forms)  What kinds are there?  Changes: O:ue, e:ie, e:i, u:ue  There are stem changing verbs that are –ar, -er, and – ir verbs

Ejemplos:  I will be giving you some examples of stem changing verbs in the preterite. See what you can notice about when and how they are different than a normal verb.  We’ve already noted that –ar and –er verbs that stem change in the present DON’T in the preterite so we’ll stick to –ir verbs.
