1 Essential question: How do I say what I like and what interests/bores me?

2  We use it to say what we like. However, it is backwards in its Spanish form because it literally translates to “it is pleasing to me”  So instead of saying “Yo gusto” to say “I like” (like you do “yo como/bailo/estudio” for all other verbs you know), you do this: ◦ “Me gusta” = I like ◦ “Te gusta” = you like

3  You can use gustar to say things you like ◦ Me gusta el béisbol. ◦ Me gustan los deportes. (Notice that it is GUSTAN when there are plural things) ◦ No me gusta la tarea ◦ No me gustan los exámenes  You can use gustar to say what you like to do ◦ Me gusta estudiar ◦ No me gusta correr ◦ You NEVER use GUSTAN with verbs ◦ Try it! Each person at your table take a turn telling each other what sport you like and like to do…say it in English if you don’t know it in Spanish. ◦ Example: Listen to me….

4  You can ask whether someone likes something ◦ ¿Te gusta el fútbol? ◦ ¿Te gustan los deportes?  You can ask whether someone likes to do something ◦ ¿Te gusta hablar español?  You can ask what someone likes ◦ ¿Qué (no) te gusta? ◦ ¿Qué deportes (no) te gustan? ◦ ¿Qué clase (no) te gusta?  You can ask what someone likes to do ◦ ¿Qué (no) te gusta hacer?

5  Short responses: ◦ ¿Te gusta el baloncesto? A mí, ¡sí! (yes I do) ◦ ¿Te gusta la tarea? A mí, ¡no! (no I don’t) ◦ Me gusta la clase. ¿y a ti? (do you?) ◦ Me gusta la clase. ¿y a ti? A mí también. (I do, too) ◦ Me gusta la clase. ¿y a ti? A mí, no. (I don’t) ◦ No me gusta la clase. ¿y a ti? A mí tampoco. (I don’t either) ◦ Activity (practice): “Alrededor de la mesa” ◦ Start with a question and then answer and continue on!

6  Write in Spanish 2 things you like and 2 you don’t like.  Speaking grade…tell the class your favorite and least favorite food!

8  You can ask whether something interests/bores someone ◦ ¿Te interesa el fútbol? ◦ ¿Te aburren los deportes?  You can ask whether an activity bores/interests someone ◦ ¿Te interesa hablar español?  You can ask what bores or interests someone ◦ ¿Qué (no) te interesa? ◦ ¿Qué deportes (no) te aburren? ◦ ¿Qué clase (no) te aburre?  You can ask what activity bores or interests someone ◦ ¿Qué (no) te interesa/aburre hacer?

9  They are all the same as with gustar.

10  Write two things that interest you and two things that bore you on the paper given to you today in class.  Like this:  Me gusta…No me gusta…  Me interesa…No me interesa…  Me aburre…No me aburre…

11 Now on the back side create a collage using the same sentences along with a picture that represents your likes/dislikes, etc…
