2 What is an infinitive?  A verb in the “to” form.  To talk, to eat, to drink, to have  Infinitives in Spanish end in –ar, -er, and -ir  It is the un-conjugated verb

3 What is conjugating?  We conjugate verbs in English. We change the verb to make it agree with the subject.  Do you remember the conjugations of SER?  To have (English)  I have  You have  He / she has  We have  They have

4 The verb TENER – TO HAVE  Use the verb TENER to talk about what you have  This verb is conjugated like this:  Tener – to have  Yo tengoNosotros tenemos  Tú tienes  Él tieneEllos tienen  Ella tieneEllas tienen  Usted tieneUstedes tienen

5 Ejemplos  I have a blond hair.  You have a funny friend.  Marco has french fries.  We have cookies.  They have pizza.  Juanita and Sara have more juice.

6 (form of)Tener + que + infinitive  Use this formula to talk about what someone has to do.  I have to study. Yo tengo que estudiar.  We have to work. Nosotros tenemos que trabajar.  They have to speak Spanish. Ellos tienen que hablar en español.

7 To have to do something  I have to study.  I have to run.  You have to draw.  He has to work.  We have to read a book  They have to listen to music.  Juan and Jorge have to do the homework.  She has to buy chocolate. 8 How often do you...?  These words are always placed BEFORE the verb.  Siempre = AlwaysNunca = Never  Antonio always takes notes.  Antonio siempre toma apuntes.  Rafael never arrives late.  Rafael nunca llega tarde.

9 How often do you...?  This word is usually placed AFTER the verb.  Mucho = a lot  Raquel studies a lot.  Raquel estudia mucho.

10 How often do you...?  These words are usually placed at the BEGINNING or the END of a sentence.  De vez en cuando = sometimes  Muchas veces = many times, often  Todos los dias = Everyday  Everyday Jaime works.  Todos los dias Jaime trabaja.  Jaime trabaja todos los dias.
