3 Mandatos negativos familiares Negative tú commands are used when you want to tell someone to NOT do something. Don’t buy the shirt! Don’t eat that! Don’t put that on the table.

4 Conjugación 1)Take the “yo” form of the verb in the present tense. Estudiar = estudio 2)Take the “o” off the end of the verb. Estudi— 3)Add the opposite endings. AR verbs – es ER/IR verbs -- as

5 Ejemplos: ¡No estudies! -- Don’t study! ¡No comas esto! -- Don’t eat that! ¡No tengas miedo! -- Don’t be afraid! ¡No salgas sin la chaqueta! -- Don’t leave … ¡No pongas la mesa! -- Don’t set the table! ¡No duermas tan tarde! -- Don’t sleep so late!

7 Spelling changes CAR/GAR/ZAR again! CAR – ques (Picar) No piques GAR – ues(Llegar) No llegues ZAR -- ces(Empezar) No empieces BOOT verbs still exist in negative tú commands. Because they show up in the “Yo” forms of the verbs in the present tense. (The 1st step in the conjugation.)

8 Placement of Pronouns With negative tú commands, pronouns (Direct, Indirect and Reflexive) ALWAYS go BEFORE the command. Ejemplos: ¡No te laves la cara! -- Don’t wash your face! (RP) ¡No lo compres! -- Don’t buy it! (DOP) ¡No me digas! -- Don’t tell me! (IOP)
