Nationality in consonant:Alemán, irlandés, inglés. +A: Alemana, irlandesa, inglesa.

4 Adjectives agreement:  The adjective is always masculine plural when following two nouns with different gender: Los chicos y las chicas simpáticos. El libro y la pluma nuevos.  It agrees with the closest one when it precedes two nouns : Hay muchas plumas y libros. Como pocos plátanos y fresas.

5 CHANGE OF MEANING  Some adjectives change their meaning depending on whether they precede or follow the noun: AdjetivoPrecedingFollowing. Viejo Long- standing: MI viejo amigo. Old: Mi amigo viejo. Antiguo Previous, former: Mi antiguo novio. Antique: Mi coche antiguo. PobreUnfortunate: El pobre hombre. Poor: EL hombre pobre. GrandeGreat: Las grandes mujeres. Big: Las casas grandes.

6 CHANGE OF MEANING 2  Some adjectives change their meaning depending on whether they precede or follow the noun: AdjetivoPrecedingFollowing. VariosSeveral: Varios libros Miscellaneous Novelas varias. Mismo The same: Lleva el mismo vestido Lleva el mismo vestidoHimself: El cura mismo preparó toda la comida Único The only: Es el único hijo. Unique: Es una joya única. MedioHalf: Leí medio libro. Average: El americano medio muere a los 80 años.

7 Shortening of adjectives: Some adjectives are shortened when they precede certain nouns.  Uno, bueno, malo, primero, tercero, alguno and ninguno drop their –o before masculine singular nouns: Buen tiempo, mal ejemplo, tercer viaje, un hombre, primer día, algún compañero, ningún examen.  Santo becomes San before masculine names, except those beginning with Do-, To- : San Francisco, BUT Santo Tomás.  Grande is always shortened to gran before singular nouns of either gender : Un gran día, una gran mujer.  Ciento becomes Cien before all nouns and before mil and millones. (Not shortened before any other numeral). Cien hombres, cien mil, cien millones, ciento cincuenta.
