3 – The Subjunctive after Impersonal Expressions – Gramática 1. An impersonal expression consists of a form of the verb ser plus an adjective; for example, es importante que, es necesario que, or es dudoso que. Spanish uses the subjunctive after all impersonal ser expressions except those that express truth, such as es cierto que, es verdad que, es evidente que, and es obvio que. Es dudoso que la carta llegue pronto. (subjunctive) Es cierto que tenemos un buen periódico. (indicative) 2. When expressions like es cierto que are made negative, the subjunctive follows que because they then imply doubt. No es cierto que Alberto sea periodista para esa revista. 3. When expressions like es dudoso que are made negative, the indicative follows que because they no longer indicate doubt. No es dudoso que mucha gente lee sólo las tiras cómicas.
