4/15/2017 7:11 AM La Guerra entre los Estados Unidos y México En 1846 los Estados Unidos entró en una guerra contra México. Los Estados Unidos habia tomado control de Tejas, que era parte de México. Tambien, México no estaba de acuerdo con Los Estados Unidos sobre la esclavitud (ilegal en México desde 1829) y asuntos de religión. 8 El tratamiento de Irelandeses y Católicos en los Estados Unidos en los 1800’s.
Los Irelandeses y los Católicos no fueron tratados muy bien durante este tiempo en los Estados Unidos, especialmente en el ejército. Los Irelandeses fueron percibidos como perezosos e ignorantes y no hubo servicios de la iglesia para católicos en el ejército.

9 Los de San Patricio Por estas razones muchos soldados Irelandeses salieron del ejército de los Estados Unidos y lucharon para el ejército de México en muchas batallas en la guerra.

10 Al final de la guerra Cuando los Estados Unidos ganó la Guerra contra México mucho de los de San Patricio ya se habían muerto. Muchos de los que sobrevivían fueron matados (hung) o marcado (branded) con un D para deserter. En México, hoy en dia el batallón de los de San Patricio se recuerda con honor.

11 Zorro La leyenda de Hollywood de Zorro está basado en la vida de un hombre real, William Lamport.

12 William Lamport William nació en Irelandia cerca de De joven, estudió en Dublin y después en Londres (London). Tuvo que salir de Londres por razones políticos, se juntó con una banda de piratas, y por fin se quedó viviendo en España. En España cambió su nombre a Guillén Lombardo. Entró al ejército español. Fue conocido como un galán y fue famoso por su pelo rojo y su habilidad con una espada.

13 Su Doble Vida En 1640 Lamport fue enviado a Nueva España (México) para ser un espía contra el nuevo gobernador, el Marquis de Villena. Lamport vivió una doble vida con la aparencia de apoyar el gobierno de Villena mientras buscaba evidencia para quitar Villena de su puesto. En 1640 Lamport fue arrestado por la Inqusicion por conspirar contra el gobierno de España y por tratar de liberar esclavos negros e indios. También, fue acusado de querer ser el Rey (the king) de México.

14 Zorro en la prisión Estuvo en la prisión por siete años dónde se hizo un líder entre los prisioneros. Logró a escaparse de la prisión y cubrió la ciudad de México con posters contra el gobierno de España. Fue capturado de regreso y fue prisionero otra nueve años. Durante su tiempo en la prisión escribió mucho.

15 La muerte y el renacimiento de Zorro
En 1659 William fue condemnado a morir en un fuego (burned at the stake) pero logró a suicidarse con una cuerda antes de ser quemado. Después de su muerte, se convirtió a un símbolo heroico para los indios y los pobres que luchaban contra la opresión en México. En 1872, Vicente Riva Palacio escribió un libro sobre William que se llamaba Memorias de un Impostor. Palacio era un “Free Mason,” y la letra Z (por la palabra ziza) está relacionado con los Masons. Entonces en su libro Palacio conectó la letra Z al heroe de su libro, William Lamport.
