2 ¿Porqué? Why?  Los estudios comprueban que los alumnos del programa de Dos Idiomas desarrollan sus habilidades cognoscitivas, sociales y académicas a un alto nivel.  Research indicates that students in Two-Way Immersion Dual Language Program develop higher cognitive, social, and academic skills than students in regular bilingual or monolingual programs.

3 Goals of the Dual Language Program Las Metas del Programa de dos Idiomas  To create academically successful bilingual and biliterate individuals.  Para criar individuos que tengan éxito académicamente y que sean bilingües y alfabetizados en ambos idiomas.

4 Además… In Addition…  Los alumnos aprenden dos idiomas de alto nivel académico.  Aprenden a valorar las contribuciones de dos culturas.  Students acquire high levels of academic language abilities in two languages.  Students also learn to value and appreciate contributions from two cultures

5 y… and…  Los alumnos que terminan el programa están preparados mejores para ingresar a la universidad.  Poseen las habilidades para afrontar los retos del nuevo milenio.  Students who complete the program are better prepared to enroll in university course work…  They have the necessary skills to meet the challenges of the new millennium.

6 Tambien Also  En esta globalización mundial es necesario ser bilingüe para poder aspirar a mejores oportunidades de trabajo.  In today’s global economy, it is necessary to be bilingual in order to be better qualified and able to take advantage of numerous work opportunities.

7 To Make a Distinction…  There are two strands in LCISD’s Dual Language Program  One-Way Immersion classes only serve native English Speakers.  Two-Way Immersion classes serve both English speakers and Spanish speakers.  The goals are the same for both strands

10 Will my child’s participation in the Dual Language Program interfere with his /her English language development? Research shows that no long term delay in native English language development occurs for students enrolled in a TWI Dual Language Program.

11 ¿Cómo Funciona el Programa?  Es un programa de alto nivel académico que incluye estrategias para alumnos con capacidades cognoscitivas superiores.  Generalmente hay dos maestros, uno en inglés y otro en español, son encargados de la clase. De vez en cuando uno solo maestro les da la instrucción en ambos idiomas.  Las clases se forman con alumnos que hablan únicamente inglés ó español ó alumnos bilingües.  Las lecciones nunca se repiten.

12 How Does the Program Work?  This program sets high academic standards that included gifted and talented strategies.  There are generally two teachers, one English monolingual and one Bilingual, deliver instruction for 50% of the time in each language. In some cases, one teacher delivers instruction in both languages.  The student population in each class may include English monolingual students, Spanish monolingual students, and bilingual students.  The lessons spiral and are not repeated.
