3 What is E.L.D? ¿Qué es E.L.D? ELD= English Language Development It is a program designed to help students who attain proficiency in English. Es un programa diseñado para ayudar a los estudiantes a que logren el dominio de Inglés. How did your child enter the program? ¿Cómo entro su hijo en el programa? Home language survey Initial CELDT Assigned ELD level by teacher Students take annual CELDT

4 How does my Child exit the ELD program? ¿Cómo mi hijo salir del programa ELD? Grade k-2 nd Step 1: student must test early advanced or advanced on the Annual CELDT Step 2: Student must receive grades 3 or 4 on their report card in the areas of language arts and math Step 3: Students must be an ELD 3 or higher Grados k-2 Paso 1: El estudiante debe pasar la prueba a nivel “principios avanzado” o “avanzado” en el CELDT anual Paso 2: El estudiante debe recibir los grados 3 o 4 en su boleta de calificaciones en las áreas de lenguaje y matemáticas Paso 3: Los estudiantes deben tener un ELD 3 o superior Reclassification Process: The steps completing the ELD program Pasos para completar el programa de ELD

6 Consequences of not exiting the ELD program in Elementary Las consecuencias de no salir del programa ELD en Primaria Placed into additional English classes in Middle School Situado en clases adicionales de inglés en la escuela secundaria Not able to participate in elective or enrichment classes No podrán participar en clases electivas o de enriquecimiento Becomes harder to reclassify in Middle school Se vuelve más difícil para reclasificar en la escuela secundaria

7 How can I help my child do well on the CELDT? ¿Cómo puedo ayudar a mi hijo a hacer bien en la prueba CELDT? Attend all 3 weeks of ELD Summer School which begins July 21. Make sure student has a quiet place to study and do homework Asegurece que el estudiante tenga un lugar tranquilo para estudiar y hacer la tarea

8 How can I help my child do well on the CELDT? ¿Cómo puedo ayudar a mi hijo a hacer bien en la prueba CELDT? Make sure students understand that the test is very important and encourage them to do their best. Asegúrese de que los alumnos comprendan que la prueba es muy importante y animelos a hacer lo mejor. Make sure students receive a healthy breakfast and get a good night’s rest (minimum of 8 hours). Asegúrese de que los estudiantes reciban un desayuno saludable y descansen bien en la noche (mínimo de 8 horas).
