( Señora Castro, Puerto Rico, el coche) An adjective/adjetivo…describes a noun (the handsome boy) el chico guapo

5 Let’s recap…. There are 2 kinds of articles (in English)
definite (the) indefinite (a an) (the car, a house, an apple) There are 2 kinds of articles/artículos (in Spanish) definite/definido (el, los, la, las) indefinite/indefinido (un, una, unos, unas)

6 Gender; -el amigo -la amiga -el refresco -la pizza
ALL nouns have gender (feminine or masculine) Most nouns that end in –o are masculine Most nouns that end in -a are feminine Some examples; -el amigo la amiga -el refresco la pizza What do the masculine words have in common? What do the feminine words have in common?

7 What if... Nouns end in -sión, -ción, -dad, or -tad? la televisión
la conversación la ciudad la libertad Which gender do you think they belong to??? Hint: look at the beginning of the word…

8 How about… If the noun ends in another letter ? Some examples;
el doctor el profesor el estudiante el señor Which gender do you think it belongs to? ....look at the article

There are 4 ways to say THE in Spanish ALL articles in Spanish have gender and number singular plural masculine el los feminine la las

10 Exceptions; You should learn the article because that will tell you the gender of the noun. Some examples la corbata el vestido Just look at the article, it will tell you the gender.

11 A definite article… is used with specific persons, places, or things.
Some examples; -el…el chico (the boy) -la…la chica (the girl) -los…los chicos (the boys) -las…las chicas (the girls) What does el, la, los, and las have in common?

There are 4 ways to say A or AN in Spanish ALL articles in Spanish have gender and number Singular plural masculine un unos feminine una unas Which one?...any…..a car, an apple

13 An indefinite article… is used with nonspecific people, places, or things
Some examples; -un… un chico (a boy) -unos… unos chicos (some boys) -una… una manzana (an apple) -unas… unas manzanas (some apples)

14 to make a noun plural… ADD -s if it ends in a vowel libros papas
Some examples; libros papas chicos chicas vestidos pizzas

15 To make a noun plural… ADD -es if it ends in a consonant
Some examples; doctores conversaciones profesores televisiones trabajadores universidades Left side-masculine nouns right side- feminine nouns

16 Make sure! The gender and number match… Some examples;
