8 Waste Identification Know what is in your waste and the process that makes it Environmental coordinator must know this info to make sure the waste is properly disposed All Drums must be labeled Empty drums must have a label stating “empty” Unmarked drums cost money and time! It is your responsibility to inform Supervisors and/or Leads of any drums you notice that are not labeled. 24 Globally Harmonized System – known as GHS GHS is the result of collaboration between most of the world’s leading governmental safety organizations to create a unified, consistent program for classifying and labeling hazardous materials. It is being adopted by many of the nations of the world. In most cases, GHS will be an addition or modification to current programs (examples: OSHA Hazcom, CCOHS WHMIS). GHS will NOT replace those programs. Sistema Global Armonizado– Conocido como GHS GHS es el resultado de una colaboración entre las organizaciones gobernantes de seguridad al nivel mundial para crear un programa unificado, consistente para clasificar y etiquetar materiales peligrosos. Sct 4: 1 st Aid Measures This section describes the initial care that should be given by untrained responders to an individual who has been exposed to the chemical. Sct 5: Fire Fighting Measures This section provides recommendations for fighting a fire caused by the chemical. Additional Sections Sct 3: Composición/Información de Ingredientes Esta sección identifica el/los ingrediente(s) contenidos en el producto indicado en SDS, incluyendo impuridades y aditivos para estabilizar. Sct 7: Handling & Storage This section provides guidance on the safe handling practices and conditions for safe storage of chemicals. Sct 8: Exposure Controls/PPE This section indicates the exposure limits, engineering controls, and personal protective measures that can be used to minimize worker exposure. 40 Aquatic Toxicity A hazardous material that presents a hazard to the environment, specifically damage to water ecosystems and aquatic life. Not mandatory under OSHA regulations. 41 DOT labels include bio-hazard, radioactive and miscellaneous hazard label, but GHS does not. DOT differentiates between flammable liquid and flammable solids, but GHS does not.
