verbs, page 110;ser and ir, page 140;poner, tener, estar, poder, dar, page 142) and the irregular imperfect (ser, ver, ir, see page 196). You know that the preterite implies completed past action, action with a definite beginning and a definite end. You know that the imperfect is used for repeated, continuous, habitual action in the past, and to talk about what was happening, used to happen and would happen, and to discuss childhood activities.

21 C. El pretérito vs el imperfecto
Remember what you read in the explanations of preterite and imperfect used in the same sentence… …to describe the situation or background information (imperfect) when something else happened or interrupted (preterite) the ongoing action. In these cases, the imperfect tense is used to tell what someone was doing when something happened (preterite). Todos mis parientes bailaban cuando llegamos.
