02.06 Grammar 1 Subject Pronouns – a review Subject pronouns are words that replace nouns in a sentence. Here are the subject pronouns in Spanish and English. They have a similar usage and meaning as in English. 9 02.06 Grammar 7 Conjugating a verb in English is easy. There are only two verb forms to remember.

In Spanish, there are different endings for each person. To conjugate the verb, first we take off the ending of the verb (–ar) and we are left with the stem. For example: the verb participar, we take off –ar and the stem is particip_. To this stem, we add the new endings and each person has its own ending.

Interrogative words are used to get more specific information. All interrogatives have accent marks. Questions marks are inverted at the beginning and at the end of a question. ¿Dónde practicas deportes? ¿Por qué estudias las ciencias? qué → what cómo → how cuántos → how many cuándo → when quién → who por qué → why dónde → where cuánto → how much cuál → which cuántas → how many

23 02.06 The Preposition Con The Preposition Con
In Spanish, we use the preposition con when we are saying with. It is also used with the verb hablar because in Spanish you talk with a person. Look at the chart below. As you can see we use the preposition con followed by a subject pronoun with the exception of conmigo (with me) and contigo (with you).

24 02.06 Making Sentences Now that you've learned how to conjugate verbs, you are ready to make sentences. Here's the formula! Subject Pronoun + Verb Stem + Ending Yo + estudi + o Yo estudio = I study Examples: Yo estudio matemáticas. Tú hablas español. Nosotros estudiamos historia. Ellos escuchan música.
