Alicia quiere probar comida mexicana. De poste, Julio prefiere comer algo muy frío. De tomar, Elena y su amigo quieren un jugo. Carmen nunca pide carne. A Manolo y a mí nos gusta el pollo. A Julio le gusta el pescado. Elena siempre pide algo de chocolate para el postre.

2 To give instructions (commands)
Sí, saca el pollo y ponlo en el horno. También pon las tortillas en el microondas. Yes, take out the chicken and put it in the oven. Also put the tortillas in the microwave. Saca is the informal command of sacar which means “to take out” Pon is the informal command of poner which means “to put” or “to set” Horno - oven Microondas - microwave

These are affirmative informal commands Affirmative means “yes” Informal means you’re talking to someone you would refer to as “tu” Command means you’re giving instructions Escucha Listen

4 Ella escucha a la musica rock. Escucha!
Forming commands To form affirmative informal commands of regular or stem-changing verbs, use the same form as “el / ella / usted”. Context will let us know if it’s a command or not. Ella escucha a la musica rock. She listens to rock music. Escucha! Listen!

Habla! (Talk!) Verb: comer (to eat) Command Come! (Eat!) Verb: escribir (to write) Escribe! (Write!) Verb: almorzar (to eat lunch) Command: Almuerza! (Eat lunch!) Verb: entender (to understand) Command Entiende! (Understand!) Verb: dormir (to sleep Duerme! (Sleep!) These are all stem-changing verbs! Don’t forget to stem-change!

6 Irregular commands Tener – Ten! Ser – Sé! Venir – Ven! Hacer – Haz!
Some verbs do not follow the rule we just learned. They have irregular commands. Tener – Ten! Have! Ser – Sé! Be! (permanent) Venir – Ven! Come! Hacer – Haz! Do! / Make! Poner – Pon! Put! Salir – Sal! Go out! / Leave! Ir – Ve! Go! Estar – Esté! Be! temporary
