2 REFLEXIVE VERBS… To describe people doing things for themselves.

3 REFLEXIVE PRONOUNS Use reflexive pronouns with reflexive verbs me nos

4 HOW TO FORM… Take the verb. lavarse
2. Take off the se to get just the infinitive lavar 3. Conjugate the verb according to the subject.  Yo lavo 4. Add the correct reflexive pronoun directly before the verb.  Yo me lavo.

5 EJEMPLOS Yo me cepillo los dientes.
Nosotros nos cepillamos los dientes. Ellos se cepillan los dientes. Ella se cepilla los dientes.

6 REFLEXIVE VS. REGULAR Reflexive – done to yourself!
Yo me lavo las manos. (I wash my hands.) Tú te pintas los labios. (You put lipstick on.) Regular – NOT done to self! Yo lavo el carro. (I wash the car.) Tú pintas el cuarto. (You paint the room.)

7 A GOOD TIP! When you use the reflexive verbs – you know you are doing this to yourself – so do NOT use possessive adjectives. It is REDUNDANT! Ej: Yo me lavo mis manos.  Redundant! Ej: Yo me lavo las manos.  GOOD! So, use your definite articles instead!

8 Reflexive Verbs that are Shoe Verbs
Despertarse (e – ie) Acostarse (o – ue) Vestirse (e – i) These verbs work the same way as regular reflexive verbs…you just have to make the stem change!

9 DESPERTARSE TO WAKE UP STEM CHANGER – E  IE
Me Despierto Nos Despertamos Te Despiertas Os Despertáis Se Despierta Se Despiertan

10 ACOSTARSE TO GO TO BED! STEM CHANGER – O  UE Me Acuesto Nos Acostamos
Te Acuestas Os Acostáis Se Acuesta Se Acuestan

11 VESTIRSE TO GET DRESSED STEM CHANGER EI Me Visto Nos Vestimos
Te Vistes Os Vestís Se Viste Se Visten

12 práctica I bathe. They put on make-up. You shower. We wake up.
She dries her hair. They get dressed. He shaves.

13 LAS RESPUESTAS YO ME BAñO. ELLOS SE MAQUILLAN. Tú TE DUCHAS.
NOSOTROS NOS DESPERTAMOS. ELLA SE SECA EL PELO. ELLOS SE VISTEN. EL SE AFEITA.

14 Los Verbos Reflexivos + Infinitivos
A reflexive pronoun can go…. Before the conjugated verb OR Attached to the end of the infinitive. Yo quiero acostarme. Yo me quiero acostar. Tú necesitas ducharte. Tú te necesitas duchar.

15 Acabar de Acabar de + infinitive = just did something Ejemplos:
Yo acabo de lavarme la cara. Yo acabo de lavar el carro. Ella se acaba de poner el piyama. Nosotros nos acabamos de levantar. * Again the reflexive pronoun can go before the conjugated verb or attached to the infinitive.

16 Para Para = in order to / for
Use the preposition para before an infinitive to explain your purpose for doing something. Tengo que levantarme temprano para correr con Ana. Yo me entreno mucho para mantenerme en forma.

17 A Ti Te Toca… Escribe las oraciones en dos maneras. I just bathed.
I just got ready in order to go to school. She needs to dry her hair. He needs to shower. We want work out in order to eat a lot.

18 Las Respuestas Yo acabo de bañarme. / Yo me acabo de bañar.
Yo acabo de prepararme para ir al colegio. / Yo me acabo de preparar para ir al colegio. Ella necesita secarse el pelo. / Ella se necesita secar el pelo. Él necesita ducharse. / él se necesita duchar. Queremos entrenarnos para comer mucho. / Nos queremos entrenar para comer mucho.
