2 What are Reflexive Verbs?
A verb is reflexive when the subject (the performer of the action) and the object (the receiver of the action) are the same person. Example: I wash myself – I and myself are the same person.

3 En otras palabras…. the subject does the action of the verb to oneself or for oneself. Por ejemplo: I wash my hair, You wash your hair, They wash their hair, etc.

4 Reflexive Verbs have 2 parts
1) A reflexive pronoun 2) A verb You know a verb is reflexive when “se” is added to the end of the infinitive Example: lavarse, arreglarse, sentarse

5 Conjugation of Reflexive Verbs
Conjugate the verb based on the subject of the sentence Add the reflexive pronoun that corresponds with the subject. The subject goes before the reflexive pronoun. Example: yo me lavo tú te lavas

6 The reflexive pronouns are…
Me - myself Nos - ourselves Te - yourself Os - yourselves Se – himself herself yourself Se – themselves yourselves

7 Another rule…… When you are doing an action to a part of your body, you use a definite article – NOT a possessive adjective. Example: I paint my nails. Me pinto las uñas. He brushes his teeth. Él se cepilla los dientes.

8 Reflexive Verbs with 2-verb sentence structure
When you have a sentence with two verbs, there are two correct ways in which you may use the reflexive verbs. You can either put the reflexive verb before the conjugated verb ….. or You can attach it to the infinitive

9 PLEASE NOTE THAT THE REFLEXIVE PRONOUN MUST AGREE WITH THE SUBJECT !!!!!

10 #2: Yo voy a bañarme ahora.
Examples Both ways are correct!!!!! I am going to take a bath now. #1: Yo me voy a bañar ahora. #2: Yo voy a bañarme ahora.

11 More Examples #1 Los estudiantes se van a despertar a las 7.
The students are going to wake up at 7:00. #1 Los estudiantes se van a despertar a las 7. #2: Los estudiantes van a despertarse a las 7.

12 More examples… We have to go to bed early.
#1: Nos tenemos que acostar temprano. #2: Tenemos que acostarnos temprano. You are able to sit down in the chair. #1: Tú te puedes sentar en la silla. #2: Tú puedes sentarte en la silla.

13 Antes de… Después de When saying that something was done before or after an action, you use antes de + infinitive después de + infinitive Before leaving – antes de salir After arriving – después de llegar

14 Antes de + reflexive verb
Antes de lavarme… Before I wash myself… Antes de cepillarte los dientes… Before you brush your teeth… Después de prepararnos… After preparing ourselves….

15 Una Prueba….. I take a bath. You wash your hair.
He dries himself with a towel. We fix our hair. The girls put make-up on. We take off our hats in school.

16 Las Respuestas I take a bath. Me baño You wash your hair.
Tú te lavas el pelo. Juan dries himself with a towel. Juan se seca con una toalla.

17 We fix our hair. Nos arreglamos el pelo. The girls put make-up on. Las chicas se maquillan. We take off our hats in school. Nos quitamos las gorras en la escuela.

18 2-verb sentence structure
I am able to get dressed. (poder o-ue + infinitive) She wants to get up late. (querer e-ie + inf) They have to paint their nails. (tener + que + infinitive) I am going to fall down here. (ir + a + infinitive)

19 I am able to get dressed. Yo me puedo vestir. Yo puedo vestirme. She wants to get up late. Ella se quiere levantar tarde. Ella quiere levantarse tarde.

20 They have to paint their nails.
Ellos se tienen que pintar las uñas. Ellos tienen que pintarse las uñas. I am going to fall down here. Me voy a caer aquí. Voy a caerme aquí.
