Hágase tu voluntad en la tierra como en el cielo. Danos hoy nuestro pan de cada día. Perdona nuestras ofensas, como también nosotros perdonamos a los que nos ofenden. 6 Ch. 8 Goals “La comida” Learn vocabulary to talk about food and describe meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) Review how to conjugate stem-changing verbs in the preterite past tense (“slipper verbs”) Review: how to use double object pronouns to avoid repetition Culture - Identify some native fruits & vegetables of the Americas & some special dishes of Latin America Learn how to use comparisons of equality, inequality, and irregular comparisons to compare 2 people or things. (better than, more than, etc.) Learn how to use superlatives to express the highest or lowest degree of a quality (the best, the worst, etc.)

Review: Comparisons of Equality & Inequality  To say that something is equal (“as much as”), use… Tan como with adjectives/adverbs (the “ly’s” in English) Tanto/a (s) como is ONLY used with nouns Tanto como can be used after verbs, but it DOESN’T change in gender or number!  To say that something is unequal “more/less than”, use… más/menos que with adjectives/adverbs/nouns *When making a comparison with numbers, use más/menos de rather than más/menos que!

Let’s talk….Superlatives! Are used to express the highest or lowest degree of a quality. (ex. Restaurant survey/rating) Use the following formula to form superlatives: el/la/los/las + [noun] + más / menos + adjective + de *NOTE: The noun can be omitted if the person, place, or thing being referred to is clear! el / la peor (the worst) el / la mejor (the best) zero 10

Example: The girl is the tallest of the students. (Tallest is not a word in Spanish, so we have to say it as “most tall”.) Use the Superlatives formula: El/la/los/las + más/menos + adjective + de La chica es la más alta de los estudiantes. *NOTE: Make sure the adjective & definite article (el/la/los/las) agree with the subject in gender & number!

Like with comparisons, some adjectives will also change when made into a superlative: Bueno/a el/ la mejor (good) (the best) Malo/a el/ la peor (bad)(the worst) Grande el/ la mayor (big)(the biggest) Pequeño/a el/la menor (small)(the smallest) Joven el/la menor (young)(the youngest) Viejo/a el / la mayor (old) (the oldest) changes to

Example: The girl is the youngest of the family. Use the Superlatives formula: El/la/los/las + más/menos + adjective + de La chica es la menor de la familia. *Notice how this sentence DOESN’T use más/menos! With irregulars, you do not need to use more/less because it’s already in the word = youngest.

Absolute Superlatives: To exaggerate that something is “extremely” or “very”, you can drop the last vowel of the adjective and add “–ísimo/a (s)”. Examples: malo mal malísimo/a (s) bueno buen buenísimo/a (s) mucho much muchísimo/a (s) Careful! The following have spelling changes: Rico riquísimo/a (s) Fácil facilísimo/a (s) Largo larguísimo/a (s) Joven jovencísimo/a (s) Feliz felicísimo/a (s) Trabajador trabajadorcísimo/a (s)

Let’s use Superlatives with some Guinness Book of World Records Winners
