¿Qué? Vs ¿Cuál?
25
Idea Grande There are two question words that often get confused in Spanish, ¿QUÉ? and ¿CUÁL?.
26
Las Diferencias Both ¿qué? and ¿cuál? can mean WHAT? Some Spanish-speaking countries tend to use ¿CUÁL? more than others. ¿Cuál? also means WHICH? It is used when you are selecting something from a set of OPTIONS. It can also be PLURAL if you are making a plural choice.
27
Las Diferencias ¿Qué? is used to ask for a definition or explanation when it is used in front of a verb. ¿Qué es una agenda electrónica? (What is an electronic organizer?) ¿Qué estudias en la clase de ciencias? (What are you studying in Science class?)
28
Las Diferencias ¿Qué? is also used to imply choice when it is used in front of a noun. ¿Qué clase te gusta más? (Which class do you like more?)
29
Práctica ¿Qué vamos a hacer hoy? ¿ Qué pasatiempo prefieres más? ¿Cuáles de las fichas son rojas?
30
Práctica ¿Qué vamos a hacer hoy? What are we going to do today? ¿ Qué pasatiempo prefieres más? Which pastime do you prefer more? ¿Cuáles de las fichas son rojas? Which playing pieces are red?
31
Distinción ¿____________ es el propósito de la reunion? ¿En _________ sala vamos a encontrarnos? ¿__________ de los músicos callejeros es tu favorito? ¿__________ vende el vendedor ambulante? ¿__________ colores quieres para tu boda?
