The goal is to provide a high-quality education for every child, so the program provides extra help to students who need it most.

8 What are the changes in the law concerning ESEA? Please Note: No Child Left Behind (NCLB) expired in 2007 and while many of its policies remain in effect, the law is now referred to by its original name, Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) of 1965. As of March 30, 2012, Georgia was granted a waiver from No Child Left Behind (NCLB). The waiver enables the state to hold schools accountable and reward them for the work they do in all subjects and with all students. AYP will no longer be used. In order to receive the waiver, the U.S. Department of Education required that states identify Title I Priority Schools, Focus Schools, and Reward Schools. Priority and Focus Schools will replace the current Needs Improvement Schools designation. Reward Schools will replace the current Title I Distinguished Schools designation and will be announced in September 2012.

9 What are the changes in the law concerning ESEA?
