2 Sentence Construction
Affirmative Statements Negative Statements Subject/verb (no negative words) Luisa habla inglés. She speaks Engish. Sr. Moreno es un profesor de español. Mr. Moreno is a Spanish teacher. “No” goes in front of verb Luisa no habla inglés. She doesn’t speak Engish. Sr. Moreno no es un profesor de español. Mr. Moreno is not a Spanish teacher.

3 More Negative Constructions
When the answer to a question is negative, two negative words are required. ¿Habla Ud. francés? Do you speak French? No, no hablo francés. No, I don’t speak French. ¿Siempre estudias? Do you always study? No, nunca estudio. No, I never study. ¿Está Gerardo en la clase? Is Gerardo in class? No, él no está en la clase. No, he’s not in class.

4 Negative Constructions
Here are some affirmative and negative words that you already know. Remember they are ANTONYMS.

5 Negative Constructions
Affirmative alguien (somebody) Algo (something) algúno(s), (some, algúna(s) something) Siempre (always) También (also) o...o (or) nadie (nobody) Nada (nothing) ningúno(s), (no ningúna(s) nothing) nunca, jamás (never) tampoco (neither) ni….ni (neither…nor)

6 Negative Constructions
Algún and ningún are always written with an accent and are used before a masculine singular noun

7 ¿Algún estudiante tiene la tarea? No, ningún estudiante tiene la tarea.

8 Negative Constructions
Negative words may come before or after the verb. But if they come after, we must use no before the verb.

Nadie llega a tiempo. No llega nadie a tiempo.

Nunca pide ayuda. No pide ayuda nunca.

13 Escriban de nuevo las oraciones al negativo
Yo veo a alguien en la casa. Yo no veo a nadie en la casa. 2. Escuchamos algo afuera. No escuchamos nada afuera. Algunos estudiantes van al baile. Ningunos estudiantes van al baile. Pepe siempre presta atención. Pepe nunca presta atención.

14 Responde a las preguntas en el negativo.
¿Tienes algunas tijeras? No, no tengo ningunas tijeras.

15 Responde a las preguntas en el negativo.
¿Debes comer algo ahora? No, no debo comer nada ahora.

16 Responde a las preguntas en el negativo.
¿Alguien tiene la cinta adhesiva? No, nadie tiene la cinta adhesiva No, no tiene nadie la cinta adhesiva.

17 Responde a las preguntas en el negativo.
¿Ella siempre lleva su carnet de identidad? No, ella nunca lleva su carnet de identidad. No, ella no lleva nunca su carnet de identidad. No, ella no lleva su carnet de identidad nunca.
