Particular criteria: compulsory and optional (point system with a minimum score) 7 areas : - Waste Management 7 areas : - Waste Management - Water saving - Energy efficiency and saving - Noise - Impact on the landscape - Green purchasing - Environmental information and education

12 Generalitat de Catalunya Departament de Medi Ambient Direcció General de Qualitat Ambiental 11/23 Catalan ecolabelling scheme: Criteria (II) ENVIRONMENTAL CRITERIA IN THE PURCHASING (ECOLABELLED PRODUCTS, LESS PACKAGING, …). INFORMATION ABOUT THE ENV. MANAGEMENT OF THE ESTABLISHEMENT MUST BE GIVEN TO THE CUSTOMER AND PROMOTE THEIR PARTICIPATION. ALSO TO INFORM TO THE CUSTOMER ABOUT PUBLIC TRANSPORTS, NATURAL HERITAGE OF THE AREA, …. THE BUILDINGS, ENCLOSURES ON THE PERIMETER AND VEGETATION USED MUST KEPT AN HARMONIC STYLE WITH THE SORROUNDINGS. THE MAXIMUM AMOUNT OF NOISE THAT ESTABLISBLISHEMENTS ARE ALLOWED TO GENERATE IS THAT SET BY MUNICIPAL ORDINANCES ON NOISE. USING IN AN EFFICENT WAY THE ENERGY THROUGH HIGH EFFICIENCY LIGHT BULBS, HIGH-OUTPUT SANITARY HOT WATER INSTALLATIONS, USE OF RENEWABLE ENERGIES WATER SAVING SYSTEMS IN BATHROOM FACILITIES, POOL EQUIPMENTS AND IRRIGATION SYSTEMS. SORTED WASTE COOLECTION ACCORDING TO MUNICIPAL REQUERIMENTS.

In some cases de EMS is used as a tool for enhance the management of the organisation and the ecolabel is used as the environmental objectives that have to be achieved. Small companies likes the ecolabel. EMAS and ISO are too complex for them (clear examples in rural and youth accommodation)
