2 Los Comparativos Comparatives are used to compare two things.

3 Comparatives: inequality
1. In Spanish we just add más (more) or menos (less) to the adjective being compared and then put que (than). La pintura es más interesante que la escultura. Una piramide Maya es menos alta que una piramide egipcia.

4 Comparatives: equality
2. We also add tan (as) to the adjective being compared and put como (as). Este cuadro es tan original como esta talla en piedra. El puente de Madison no es tan largo como el puente de San Francisco.

Compare more than two things.

7 La Gioconda es la pintura más importante del mundo.
Los Superlativos 1. In Spanish we just add el, la, los, or las and más or menos to the adjective being compared. La Gioconda es la pintura más importante del mundo.

8 Los Superlativos Did you notice that the word “de” follows the adjective (just as “of” does in English). Mi dibujo es el menos creativo de todos.

15 Los Comparativos Hay cuatro comparativos irregulares (no se necesitan más): mejor (better), peor (worse), mayor (older), menor (younger) Pablo es mayor que yo. El agua es mejor que la cerveza.

Mi hermana es mayor que yo. ¿Quién es menor Juan o Raúl? Raúl es menor que Juan.

17 Los Superlativos Superlatives are used to compare more than two things. In Spanish we just add el, la, los, or las to the irregular comparative. Nothing new here!

18 Los Superlativos ¿Quién es la mayor de todas las chicas?
Margarita es la mayor de todas las chicas. Pilar es la menor de todas.
