3 1.1 CLASIFICACION DE LOS MECANISMOS DE CONMUTACION Conmutación de MENSAJES Conmutación de CELDAS Message switching network: A network in which data is moved as complete messages of arbitrary length, rather than being subdivided into packets, which contain a variable amount of data but with a fixed upper limit on length, or as cells, which contain a fixed amount of data. Cell switching operates in a similar way to packet switching but uses small fixed length cells for data transport. This technology is found within cell based integrated networks such as Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) networks. Cell switching can handle multiple data types, i.e. voice, video and data
