6 Los Factos Born:July 6, 1907– Died:July 13, 1954 Married to Diego Rivera She was born in Coyoacán (A borough of Mexico City), Mexico Kahlo was 3 years old when the Mexican revolution of 1910 began. For years she claimed that she was born in 1910 so that she would be associated with the revolution. Her work has been celebrated in Mexico as emblematic of national and indigenous tradition, and by feminists for its uncompromising depiction of the female experience and form. Her Mexican and native heritage allow her art to have a folk like feeling.

7 Mas Factos Frida Kahlo married Diego Rivera on August 21, 1929 when he was 42 and she was 22. Kahlo began painting after a life altering car accident that left her immobile for several years. Kahlo's works are often characterized by their suggestions of pain, this was drawn from personal experiences, including her marriage and her numerous operations. Of her 143 paintings, 55 are self-portraits which often incorporate symbolic portrayals of physical and psychological wounds. When asked about her work, she was quoted saying "I never painted dreams. I painted my own reality."
