Stem Changers: Definition
Stem-changers do exactly what their name tells you- they change their stems! 1 letter will become 1 or 2 letters All stem change verbs make a BOOT

Stem-Changers are often called “boot” verbs.
This is because there is a stem-change in all forms EXCEPT nosotros, thus making the shape of a boot!

Yo prefiero Nosotros preferimos Tú prefieres él/ella. prefiere Ellos/Ellas prefieren

We also know that “e” can change to “i” with some verbs… check out “decir”: Yo digo Nosotros decimos Tú dices Ella/Ud. dice Ellas/Uds. dicen

Just like with other stem-changers, this pattern fits the shape of a boot/shoe

Biggest Mistake Don’t get so worried about stem-changing that they forget about the ending! Check if it is an –ar,-er, or –ir verb, be sure to attach the right endings! BE CAREFUL!
