Repaso – KEY GRAMMAR TERMS Subject – WHO or WHAT the sentence is about Felix washes the dishes. Verb – The action of a sentence. The verb is conjugated according to the subject. Felix washes the dishes Conjugate – to change a verb so that it AGREES with the subject. I sweep. Felix sweeps.

Repaso A verb unconjugated (no subject) is called the INFINITIVE form of the verb There are three “classes” of infinitives in Spanish: –ar, -er, or -ir Ejemplo: bailar = to dance envolver = to wrap recibir = to receive When you conjugate a verb, you add endings according to which “class” of verb it is (ej: hablar takes –ar verb endings while comer takes –er verb endings)

The irregulars! The following verbs irregular and have unique conjugated forms: (Most are ‘yo-go’ verbs) Decir – to say/tell Dar – to give Poner – to put/place/set Hacer – to do/make Salir – to leave Traer – to bring Venir – to come

DECIR – to say / to tell Decir has several irregular forms; only vosotros & nosotros is regular digodecimos dicesdecís dicedicen

Venir – to come Venir is also a ‘yo-go’ verb and has a stem-change in the 2 nd and 3 rd person forms (cousins with ‘tener’) vengo venimos vienes venís viene vienen

And finally…. These are irregular ONLY in the ‘yo’ form Dar – Yo doy Poner – Yo pongo Hacer – Yo hago Salir – Yo salgo Traer – Yo traigo
