3 I. What is a direct object (DO)? A DO is the direct recipient of the action of the verb. A DO is the direct recipient of the action of the verb. In other words, it tells who or what is “verbed”. In other words, it tells who or what is “verbed”.

8 * Personal a – Remember, when a person is the DO of a sentence it will have a personal a. Be careful! ** 3 rd person DOPs must agree in gender & number with DO!

9 Examples Ex1: Damos el regalo a Elena. Lo damos a Elena. Ex2: La clase saluda a la profesora. La clase la saluda.

11 1 verb = 1 option With 1 verb, placement is the same as IOP  in front of the verb. Ex: Damos el regalo a Elena. Lo damos a Elena

12 2 verbs = 2 options 1 st option  same as normal 1 st option  same as normal Ex: Voy a dar el regalo a Elena. Lo voy a dar a Elena

13 2 verbs = 2 options 2 nd option  attached to the INF or gerund 2 nd option  attached to the INF or gerund Ex: Voy a dar el regalo a Elena. voy a darlo a Elena voy a darlo a Elena

14 2 verbs = 2 options Therefore, Lo voy a dar a Elena OR Voy a darlo a Elena mean the same thing.

15 Examples Ex1: Ellos ven a nosotros. Ellos nos ven. Ex2: Vas a visitar a mí. 1. Vas a visitarme. 2.Me vas a visitar. Ex3: Deseo ver a nosotros. 1. Deseo vernos. 2.Nos deseo ver
