2 Purpose / Proposito To design and improve existing trail for the purpose of providing pedestrians and students that walk to the Los Llanos elementary school a safe alternative to walking in the roadway where there is a lot of domestic car traffic as well as tourist bus traffic. In addition, the use of native plants will enhance the entrance to Monteverde. Diseñar y mejorar el sendero existente con el proposito de proveer a peatones y estudiantes la posibilidad de caminar entre Los Llanos y Santa Elena con mayor seguridad al transitar en un camino con mucho trafico. Y tambien, utilizando plantas nativas que embelleseran la entrada de Monteverde

3 Pot holes / Huecos Pot holes fill with water and some drivers drive through them fast, splashing pedestrians Huecos llenos de agua y conductores a alta velocidad, provocan accidentes mojando en muchas ocaciones a los peatones

4 Fog/Niebla Is an existing condition that poses a hazard to pedestrians since visibility is limited Las existentes condiciones del sitio presentan un riesgo para los peatones por la poca visibilidad

5 Use of Bus Stop Usa de Parada de Buses Through our own use of the bus stop to get out of the rain, we discovered that the bus stop is currently being used by students and pedestrians to get out of the rain and as a resting point Bajo nuestra propia experiencia nos dimos cuenta que esta parada de buses es tan bien usada como sitio para escapar de la lluvia y punto de descanzo.

11 Master Plan This diagram illustrates the proposed trailway on the west side of the Camino Principal. The trailway starts in Santa Elena where the Camino Principal and the Clinic/Cemetery road intersect. Este esquema ilustra la propuesta de este paso peatonal a lado oeste del camino principal. Este paso peatonal comienza en Santa Elena en la intercepcion del camino que va a la clínica y el sementerio.

12 Bridge Design Diseño de Puente This bridge design illustrates the use of recommended materials by the Monteverde Reserve. We propose using cypress lumber. Bridge will be stabilized with rebar and wire mesh will be installed on top to prevent slipping.

14 Trailway Detail Detalle de sendero It is recommended that the trailway have a depth of 5 cm of aggregate base and on average a 1.2 m width. Es recomendado que el sendero tenga 5 cm de base

15 Step Construction Construcción de Gradas Sacate bloques (right) are recommended for the construction of steps, similar to the usage in the Monteverde Reserve (above).

17 Bus Stop Parada de Buses The existing bus stop in its current condition is unwelcoming and provides a boring first impression to visitors as they enter Monteverde

18 Handcrafted Benches Bancas Artesanales We propose using harvested cypress trees for the construction of benches along the trailway and that benches are handcrafted by local artisans to reflect the natural environment Above is an existing bench in Monteverde. Benches with arms will make it easier for the elderly and children to use. Right, proposed design
