2 Remember that the stem is the part of the verb that remains when the ending is removed. hablar – to talk, to speak habl These are verbs that have spelling changes in the stem that must be made when the verb is conjugated. The change takes place in the vowel that is closest to the ending. If there is more than one vowel, only the one closest to the ending changes. preferir – to prefer

3 The spelling change takes place in all of the forms EXCEPT THE NOSOTROS FORM!!! This forms a boot pattern whenever you have a conjugation chart. The nosotros form is the only form outside of the boot, and its spelling does not change. preferir – to prefer yo prefieronosotros preferimos tú prefieres usted, él prefiere ella ustedes ellos prefieren ellas

4 These verbs take the regular -AR, -ER, and -IR endings. -ER and -IR Verb Endings yo -onosotros -emos / -imos tú -es usted él -e ella ustedes ellos -en ellas -AR Verb Endings yo -onosotros -amos tú -as usted él -a ella ustedes ellos -an ellas
