2 El Futuro There are 3 ways to express a future idea or action in Spanish 1) The construction ir + a + infinitive expresses the English to be going + infinitive Voy a comprar las entradas.= I am going to buy the tickets.

3 2) The present tense can be used to express an action in the very near future
Esta tarde voy al teatro y compro las entradas.

4 3) The future tense, saying what you will do
3) The future tense, saying what you will do. You book says it is not common but that is not true. It depends on the country and on the speaker. Compraré las entradas si tú me das el dinero. = I will buy the tickets if you give me money.

5 Use of the future tense This tense talks about what you WILL do.
I will walk to school. – Yo caminaré a la escuela. The future tense can be used to talk about probability. The English equivalent for the future of probability include wonder, bet, can, could, must, might, and probably. ¿Qué será esto?= I wonder what this is? Será una entrada para el concierto de mañana. = It must be the ticket for tomorrow’s concert.

Endings: -ar, -er, -ir and irregulars Yo -é Nosotros -emos Tú -ás Él -á Ellos -án Ella -á Ellas -án Ud -á Uds -án

7 *In this tense, you must leave the infinitive intact and then add the above endings. In other words, DO NOT drop the –ar/-er/-ir!! *These endings work for all verbs (-ar, -er, -ir, and irregulars). *Accents are really important. Cabrá= will fit and cabra= goat! Examples: Hablar Vivir hablaré hablaremos viviré viviremos hablarás vivirás hablará hablarán vivirá vivirán

8 IRREGULARS: The following verbs are irregular in the future tense. They take regular endings but have a stem change before the endings can be added. *All other verbs not on this list conjugate regularly.

11 El Condicional This tense talks about what you WOULD do.
I would walk to school but I am too tired. – Yo caminaría a la escuela pero estoy muy cansada. The conditional can also be used to soften a request or criticism. ¿Podría decirme dónde se encuentra la Compañía Suárez? = Could you tell me where the Suarez Company is located?

Él puede cantar bien. 6. Ella sale del avión. 7. Uds escriben mucho. 8. Ud dice la verdad. 9. Los chicos juegan. 10. Yo ando en el jardín.
