Subjects and Verbs The subject of a sentence tells us who is doing the action. The verb tells us what action is taking place in the sentence.

Subject Pronouns Subject pronouns are used to discuss people.
A subject pronoun tells who is the subject of the sentence. Subject pronouns can replace names when talking.

Yo- I Tú- You (informal) Él- He Ella- She Usted- You (formal) Nosotros- We Vosotros – (You all / Y’all) Ellos- They (boys only & mixed genders) Ellas- They (girls only) Ustedes- You all Spain only Latinamerica

Usted- you FORMAL You use USTED when talking to people with whom you are on a last name basis. Shows respect and formality The president, doctors, teachers, adults, etc…

Usted and Ustedes Usted refers to only one person.
Usted is abbreviated as Ud. Ustedes refers to more than one person. Can be a formal and informal person. Ustedes is abbreviated as Uds.

In Spanish a verb can tell the subject of the sentence all by itself! This happens when you conjugate the verb. However, it is often times necessary to use a subject pronoun to help clarify the conjugation of the verb. Now, lets learn a verb conjugation!

Vosotros(as) - sois Ellos Ellas son Ustedes

1. If you have a singular subject, even if you don’t know what it means, use the: Él, Ella, Ud. Form of the verb
