DO NOW: The infinitive is the basic form of a verb. In Enlgish infinitives have the word “to” in front of them (to talk). In Spanish, infinitives end in –ar, -er, or –ir. In Spanish the largest number of infinitives end in –ar. Write the verb endings to usar = to use. First take away –ar ending: us__. Place stem for each pronoun like #1 example. Yo: add –o: uso Tú: add -as: usas usted/él/ella add a : usa__ nosotros/nosotras add:_amos____ usamos Ustedes/ellos/ellas add:_an____ usan

3 Writing a sentence with a verb ending in ar and a subject pronoun is not a proper phrase. Ex: Yo cantar. Ella cantar.(No, no, no) It is incorrect. You need to add the proper ending: Yo canto. Ella canta. In Enlgish = I to sing is also incorrect you have to take away the “to” part and conjugate the verb: I sing or she sings.

In the middle write nosotros and write what is common for both. Then use the proper verb ending for each phrase. See sample on pg87. Don’t forget to conjugate verb ending of left side of diagram for Yo (ex: yo paso tiempo con amigos) Middle side conjugate for nosotros (ex: nosotros pasamos tiempo con amigos) Right side conjugate él or ella (ex: ella or él pasa tiempo con amigos)
