1 Do-Now Look over your new vocabulary lists and say the words to yourself. Think through the keys to good pronunciation from last class (A - E - I - O - U, silent H, and LL = Y). Be ready to pronounce the vocabulary for the class. AIM: I can understand conjugated verbs in paragraphs in Spanish. I know what regular present tense conjugations mean.

2 How to Conjugate… SPANISH VERBS

3 First, let’s review the subject pronouns.
Singular Plural Person 1st 2nd 3rd nosotros m. we nosotras f. vosotros m. you vosotras f. ustedes you ellos m. they ellas f. yo I tú you usted you él he ella she "Usted" is used only when addressing someone formally. "Ustedes" is used when addressing a group of people (like the word "y'all")

4 Examples of a conjugation…
Conjugate: To change a verb to show number, person, and tense (when/how). Examples of a conjugation… I run. You have. She walks. We are. You see. They speak.

5 Examples of an infinitive…

6 Verbs are classified by their infinitive.
-AR verbs are verbs that end in –ar. Hablar, mirar. -ER verbs end in –er. Comer, beber. -IR verbs end in –ir. Vivir, ofrir. Types of verbs -IR

7 Let’s get started… Conjugating regular –AR verbs.
To conjugate a regular –AR verb, one must first remove the –AR ending from the infinitive. This will leave you with the stem. Use the infinitive, hablar hablar – ar = habl habl is your stem

8 Add the regular –AR verb endings to your stem

9 These endings correspond with the following subject pronouns.

Once you know the pattern, you can conjugate every regular –AR verb. Also, you can tell if it is 1st, 2nd, or 3rd person singular or plural.
