Present vs. Past The present tense talks about things that are currently happening or taking place right now. Ex. I eat lunch. The past tense talks about completed actions that have ended (already happened). Ex. I ate lunch.

Preterite Endings for Regular -ARVerbs
The preterite tense in Spanish tells what happened or what you did. It is used when the action described has already been completed. When conjugating the regular preterite tense of an –AR verb, take off the –AR and add the following endings.

*Notice the accent marks on the endings: “yo” form… é “él, ella, Ud form….ó Use the term “YOSHE” as a way to remember that the “yo” and “she” forms have accents! *Notice the “Nosotros” form is the same in the present tense and preterite tense. You will need to use context clues to help tell which tense is intended.
