Padre Nuestro En el nombre del padre, el hijo, y el Espíritu Santo, Amen. Padre nuestro, que estás en el cielo. Santificado sea tu nombre. Venga tu reino. Hágase tu voluntad en la tierra como en el cielo. Danos hoy nuestro pan de cada día. Perdona nuestras ofensas, como también nosotros perdonamos a los que nos ofenden. No nos dejes caer en tentación y líbranos del mal. Amen.

Ch. 8 Goals “La comida” Learn vocabulary to talk about food and describe meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) Review how to conjugate stem-changing verbs in the preterite past tense (“slipper verbs”) Review: how to use double object pronouns to avoid repetition Culture - Identify some native fruits & vegetables of the Americas & some special dishes of Latin America Learn how to use comparisons of equality, inequality, and irregular comparisons to compare 2 people or things. (better than, more than, etc.) Learn how to use superlatives to express the highest or lowest degree of a quality (the best, the worst, etc.)
6
Let’s talk…Comparisons!
Comparisons are used to indicate which of 2 people/things has a lesser, equal, or greater degree of a quality. Examples: My sister is taller than me. I am less boring than she is. (more fun) I am as short as she is.
7
Comparisons of Equality:
Tan/Tanto/a (s) are also used for emphasis rather than to compare! To form a comparison of equality: Use the following equations… Tan adjective como = “as … as” adverb *Tanto/a (s) noun como = “as much/many as” Example: Yo no tengo tanto dinero como Donald Trump. Verb tanto como = “as much as” Yo no como tanto como mi hermana.
8
Comparisons of Equality - Examples:
David es tan alto como su mamá, Susie. Susie es tan alta como su hijo, David. * Note that the adjective MUST always agree (in gender and number) with the noun that’s before it. (David/alto, Susie/alta) tan….como = “as….as”
9
más/menos + adjective + que = “than” adverb noun
To form a comparison of inequality: Use the equations… más/menos + adjective que = “than” adverb noun Verb más/menos que = “more/less than” *NOTE: In English we use adjectives like taller, but these forms DO NOT exist in Spanish. In Spanish, you would have to say más alto(a) = more tall! Example: Sofía es más alta que yo.
10
Comparison of Inequality – Examples:
Me gusta mirar la televisión más que estudiar. Exception: You must use “de” when using the phrases más & menos with numbers! Tenemos más de veinte estudiantes en esta clase. Hay menos de cinco minutos para estudiar. (noun)
11
La langosta es más rica que las arvejas
La langosta es más rica que las arvejas. Las arvejas son menos ricas que la langosta. Susana come menos arvejas que Enrique. (adjective) (noun)
12
Mayor/Menor + que = older/younger than
Mayor (older) & Menor (younger) can be used in 2 different ways: As descriptive adjectives they go after the noun they describe. Examples: Mi hermana mayor Mi hermano menor To make comparisons, mayor & menor are followed by “que” Pablo es menor que Ana. Yo soy mayor que mis primos.
13
Mejor/Peor + que = better/worse than
Mejor (better) & Peor (worse) are followed by “que”. Example: Yo juego al tenis mejor que Sra. Stribling.
14
Let’s make some comparisons!
Students will express their opinions by moving to opposite ends of the classroom based on their answer (middle of room for tan….como). One person in each group will write their opinion on their group’s whiteboard.
