1 This picture represents the day when Martin Luther King delivered his most famous speech “I have a dream” on August 28th, 1963. This man was an activist in the defence of civil rights in the United States of America. Among other achievements, M. L. King received a Nobel peace prize because of his non-stopping fight against racial segregation without the use of violence.

2 When the president of the United States of America Franklin Delano Roosevelt declared the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, on December 7, 1941 the United States was put into alert. As the attack on Pearl Harbor started a sense of fear about national security, especially on the West Coast, in February 1942 the president Roosevelt as commander-in-chief ordered the relocation of all people of Japanese ancestry, both citizens and foreigners, inland, outside of the Pacific military zone. The main purposes of the order were to prevent espionage and to protect persons of Japanese descent from harm at the hands of Americans who had strong anti-Japanese attitudes.

3 The Charleston is a variety of dancing that originated in the United States during 1920s. Charleston is a so-called dance because of its origin on the port city of Charleston, South Carolina. This style became a fashion having a great importance in Europe and was a rhythm and also a symbol as it characterized a time of carefree that was a great help to have fin after the catastrophe of World War I.

4 This picture represents the rivalry between president Kennedy from the U.S and Nikita Krushev from the URSS, at the end of the second world war, period of crisis which is known as the cold war. During this period they were confronting each other for the ideological, political, economical and territorial supremacy. They discussed about who was the stronger regarding the use of missiles. These two powerful forces wanted to rule and expand their power over the whole world.

5 This picture represents women's organizations from the late-19th and early-20th centuries which fought for the right to vote in public elections.

6 This picture represents the “Treaty of Versailles” which brought World War I to an end. This Treaty put and end to the period when Germany and the Allied Powers where fighting. It was signed on 28 June 1919.

7 This picture represents the Sarajevo attack which was the time when the heir to the Autro- Hungarian Empire, Francisco Fernando de Austria, was killed together with his wife the duchess Sofia Chotek, in Sarajevo capital of Bosnia.

11 This picture shows the falling of the Berlin Wall and the weakening of the socialist forces. The braking of this Wall also shows the start of the dissolution of the URSS.

12 This picture shows the atomic bombings on Hiroshima and Nagasaki when nuclear attacks were ordered by Harry Truman, president of the U.S against Japan. These events took place n August 6th and August 9th 1945 respectively, and forced Japan to surrender causing that way, the end of the second World war.

13 This picture shows the people who were queuing to get something to eat without charge during the crisis in the United states in 1929. This period was called the “ Great Depression”. Al Capone, a mafia man, was the first to open a free place which gave hungry people something to drink and eat.
