Los Pronombres de Complemento, Directo e Indirecto

Direct Object Pronouns (things and people) me nos te os lo,lalos, las TO FIND THE D.O. Ask… Who/what after the verb; answer is the D.O. Indirect Object Pronouns (people only) me nos te os le les TO FIND THE I.O. Ask… To whom/for whom something is done; answer is the I.O.

Where do I put the pronoun? With one conjugated verb  Only one option! Right before the conjugated verb.  ¿Comiste el ciervo? No, no lo comí. With a verb phrase (two verbs  one idea)  Either before the conjugated verb or attached to the infinitive. (a.k.a. before the first verb or attached to the second)  ¿Puedes cocinar la ardilla? Sí, la puedo cocinar. OR Sí, puedo cocinarla.  REMEMBER: ONE VERB, ONE OPTION; TWO VERBS, TWO OPTIONS

¡A Practicar! My sister found them (flowers) in the forest. He is going to put it (match) in his backpack. We saw you at the movie theater. I told him the truth. The bear wants to eat us.

¡Ahora…las respuestas! My sister found them (flowers) in the forest. Mi hermana las encontró en el bosque.

¡Ahora…las respuestas! He is going to put it (match) in his backpack. Lo va a poner en su mochila O Va a ponerlo en su mochila

¡Ahora…las respuestas! We saw you at the movie theater. Te vimos al cine.

¡Ahora…las respuestas! I told him the truth. Le dije la verdad.

¡Ahora…las respuestas! The bear wants to eat us. El oso nos quiere comer O El oso quiere comernos.

What if I want to use both the direct and indirect object pronouns in the same sentence?? If you want to use both object pronouns, they will be placed in the same positions: one verb/one option or two verbs/two options. However, you MUST put the indirect object pronoun first (the person) because PEOPLE ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN THINGS! e.g. I give you money. Te lo doy. e.g. I am going to give it (money) to you. Te lo voy a dar O voy a dártelo.

THE EXCEPTION…. *If* you use the indirect object for the third person (le, les) in the same sentence as the direct object for it/them (lo, la, los, las) you have to change the indirect object from le/les to se. e.g. I told him the truth.  Le dije la verdad. e.g. I told it (truth) to him.  Se la dije. e.g. I am going to tell it to him.  Se la voy a decir O voy a decírsela.
