3 This week our class will focus on things that we can observe in nature. We will be discussing how we investigate the questions we have about our observations, including the methods and tools we might use. Comprehension: Sequence You and your child can read a short story. Then your child can read a list of the events leading up to the story. Your child can number the events to arrange them in the sequence that makes sense. Here are some activities you can do with your child to help reinforce the skills we’ll be practicing. Words to Know: Greek and Latin suffixes You and your child will create a story about what happens in autumn. You will take turns making sentences that use the list words to build the story. Spelling/Phonics: inflectional endings You and your child will make a two-column chart of the list words. You will say the word, and your child will write it in the appropriate column and then spell the word. Students should read only chapter books as part of our AR program. Students will take the STAR reading test on Thursday in the computer lab. New AR goal letters will go home with students. Please, sign and return these letters as soon as possible. Wednesday, October 14 th marks the beginning on a new Term. Parent-Teacher Conferences I will be adding additional dates and times to www.signupgenius.com if there is interest from any parents to meet concerning your students academic performance and/or behavior in 5 th grade.
