5 Comparatives We also use más / menos + adjective + que (‘than’) to make comparisons of inequality.

6 Comparatives más / menos + adjective + que Los discos compactos de Los Toros son más populares que los discos compactos de Los Lobos.

7 Comparatives más / menos + adjective + que Jorge es menos serio que María.

8 Remember! The articles, adjectives, and nouns must agree in gender and number: – El perro caliente – Los estudiantes inteligentes

9 Comparatives The adjectives bueno, malo, viejo, and joven have irregular comparative forms. We do not use más with them.

10 Comparatives bueno, a malo, a viejo, a joven mejor (que) peor (que) mayor (que) menor (que)

11 Comparatives Mejor, peor, mayor, and menor have plural forms ending in -es. However, they don’t have a different feminine form:

12 Comparatives Las hermanas de Pedro son menores que las de Juan.

13 Comparatives Mejor (better) is also the comparative form of bien (well), and peor (worse) also the comparative form of mal (badly).

14 Comparatives When used in this sense, mejor and peor have only one form.

15 Comparatives Graciela y Fabián son mejores jugadores que Susana y Gustavo en tenis.

16 Comparatives Graciela y Fabián juegan tenis mejor que Susana y Gustavo.

20 Comparisons of equality To form comparisons of equality use tan or tanto (-a) (-os) (-as) and como. When comparing adjectives:When comparing nouns: bonita Tan (as) + como tarde Tanto (as much) dinero Tanta comida + como Tantos (as many) libros Tantas plumas

21 To compare people or things that are equal to one another, you use: Making comparisons En mi club, levantar pesas es tan popular como correr.

22 To say that things are not equal, you can use the negative. En el club atlético, levantar pesas no es tan popular como correr. Making comparisons

23 To say “as much as” or “as many as,” you use: Making comparisons

24 Note that tanto agrees in gender and number with what is being compared. Hay tantas actrices en el ensayo como actores. Making comparisons
