de is the Spanish word for of or from. You can use de to describe where people fall in a family tree. Example: Javier y Yolanda son los tíos de Rafael. Javier and Yolanda are the aunts and uncles of Rafael.

Formula: Tener (conjugated) + year (age)+ años= saying how old you/someone is Asking Ages: ¿Cuántos años tiene? – How old are you? Example: Tengo doce años. This means I am twelve years old.

Formula: Ser (conjugated) + Cumpleaños + day of month + de + month Asking: ¿Cuál es la fecha de tú cumpleaños? Ex: Mi Cumpleaños es el primero de Mayo. This means My birthday is the first of may.

Use de to state the day of the month. Formula: Es el + number (day of month) + de + month= date and means It is the (number) of (month). You can you hoy es to say the date of today. Hoy es quince de mayo. Today is the fifteenth of may

In English, you express possession by adding s to the noun that refers to the possessor. In Spanish, you use de. Example: Los hijos de Javier. This means Javiers children.
