Era el mediodía. La casa era bonita.

El chico se llamaba Harry Potter Él tenía 16 años.

Harry tenía un cicatríz.

Harry estaba triste.

A Harry le gustaba jugar Quidditch.

The imperfect tense can also be used to ‘set the scene’ – i.e. to describe what was happening when something else occurred. Here, we need both the imperfect and perfect past tenses.

Harry estudiaba con Ron cuando Snape entró.

Harry jugaba al Quidditch cuando él vio el snitch.

Harry trabajaba en la sala cuando llegó Hedwig.

Harry leía el libro cuando Tom Riddle le empezó a hablar.
