Students outside after school.

About the school Sobre la escuela Located in a small indigenous community in the province of Chimborazo. Se ubica en una comunidad indígena y pequeña en la provincia de Chimborazo. 20 students from 1st to 6th grade. 20 estudiantes de 1r hasta 6o grado. 2 mestizo teachers come in from the city every day to teach. 2 profesoras mestizas vienen cada día de la ciudad para enseñar. The students’ first language is Kichwa, an Andean language. They learn Spanish in school. El idioma nativo de los estudiantes es el kichwa, una lengua andina. Todos aprenden el castellano en la escuela. All the students wanted to help with the scrapbook, not just the older ones, so it’s the work of the whole school. Todos los estudiantes, no sólo los mayores, querían ayudar con el scrapbook, así que es el trabajo de toda la escuela.

1st, 2nd, and 3rd Grades 1r, 2o y 3r grados Professor Teresa Barío teaches 2 first graders, 2 second graders and 4 third graders, all in the same classroom! La profesora Teresa Barío se encarga de los 2 estudiantes de primer, los 2 estudiantes de segundo, y los 4 estudiantes de tercer año, ¡todos en el mismo aula!

Luis Antonio Gualán Guapi I’m 8 years old. I live with my family: mom, dad, brothers, uncle, aunt, cousins. I like to play. I like to study math.

4th, 5th, and 6th Grades 4o, 5o y 6o grados Professor Dora Guzmán teaches 4 fourth graders, 3 fifth graders and 4 sixth graders. Each grade has its own section of the classroom and its own chalkboard. La profesora Dora Guzmán se encarga de los 4 estudiantes de cuarto, los 3 estudiantes de quinto, y los 4 estudiantes de sexto año. Cada grado tiene su propio espacio en el aula y su propio pizarrón.
