Explanation A verb is reflexive when the subject of the sentence is doing the action to itself Ex: He washes himself. The subject, he, is doing the action of washing to himself and therefore, the verb is reflexive. When a verb is reflexive, the infinitive of the verb ends in “se” Ex: lavantarse, comerse, lavarse, despertarse When you conjugate reflexive verbs move the “se” in front of the verb and replace it with me for the yo form, te for the tu form, se for the el, ella, usted, ustedes, ellos, and ellas forms, and nos for the nosotros form. Then conjugate the infinitive as you normally would. Ex: Yo me lavo. I wash myself.

When a reflexive verb comes after another verb that is already conjugated, you can either attach the pronoun to the end of the infinitive or put it before the conjugated verb. Ex: John needs to wash his hair. Juan se necesita lavar el pelo. Juan necesita lavarse el pelo.

Notes Bañarse- to take a bath Yo- me baño Nosotros- nos bañamos Tú- te bañas Usted, él, ella- se baña Ustedes, ellos, ellas- se bañan When a reflexive verb comes after a verb that is conjugated, use the reflexive pronoun that matches the subject of the sentence with the verb infinitive.

Examples Me arreglo por la mañana para cepillarme los dientes con la pasta de dientes, ducharme, y apagar la luz después de acostarme. Esta mañana cuando me duché, use el champu, el jabon, y me seque con la toalla gigante. Todos las mañanas, me despertaba primero y entonces me levantaba y comia el cereal para el desayuno. En el futuro, no me maquillare porque no me gusta pero normalmente me peinare por la mañana porque es en mi rutina.
