2 main categories in Spanish Gender Number

Gender Refers to: Masculino (masculine) Feminino (feminine)

Number Refers to: Singular Plural

1. …ends in -O  libro  escritorio  bolígrafo

2. …ends in -OR  actor  borrador  profesor

3. refers to a male being  Padre  Hombre  Señor

Feminino  4 rules to follow to know if a word is categorized as FEMININO  You need to look at the word ending…

1. …ends in -A  pluma  mesa  regla

2. …ends: -ción or -sión  lección  televisión

3. …ends: -dad or -tad  unidad  dificultad

4. refers to a female being  mujer  madre  señora

Exceptions  El problema  El mapa  El día  La tarde  La noche  La mano

 Those are just some examples.  There are many other exceptions.  The best way to know which are masculine & feminine: MEMORIZE THEM!!
