Transcripción de la presentación:

Gustar To like…. To be pleasing…

Gustar is a unique verb that we use to express what we like. In English we would say I like to dance. However in Spanish it literally translates as dancing is pleasing to me. Gustar… Backwards???

Me gusta bailar Dancing is pleasing to me…

Here’s how it works: There are only 2 conjugations for the verb: Gusta Gustan

A verb Me gusta bailar A singular noun Me gusta el libro. Me gusta la mochila. Use Gusta when what is pleasing is….

A PLURAL noun Me gustan los libros. Me gustan las mochilas. Use Gustan when what is pleasing is….

Gustamos Never use gustar as… Gusto Gustas NUNCA!!!!

The subject in English is the Indirect Object Pronoun in Spanish. The to whom… You must use… How do we know who likes it? Me-Me Us- Nos You-Te Him/her/ Le Them/- Les You formal Y’all

Hoy vamos a hablar de los intereses, de… Justin Bieber. Remember, Justin is not the subject of these sentences, he’s the indirect object! If we use his name, we will need a personal “a”

A Justin, le gusta cantar… pero le encanta el pelo suyo!

¡A él, le gusta el dinero¡ También le gustan las gafas de sol. A él no le gustan las pintas

A él, le gustan las chicas.

Después de los conciertos, le duele el cuello porque mueva su pelo mucho.

How do we conjugate gustar??? Remember it works Backwards!! Me gusta la leche. Nos gusta ir a la escuela. Me Nos Te Os Le Les gusta + singular noun + verb in the infinitive

Me Nos Te Os gustan + Plural noun Le Les Por ejemplo: Me gustan los dulces. Le gustan los deportes

Le gusta salir con sus amigos. A Pablo le gusta salir con sus amigos. ¿¿¿Quién??? Some times you need to clarify who Le/les is… As always, you need to include the Indirect Object Pronoun. However, sometimes the Le/Les does not explain enough. For example in the phrase… Who is Le? It could be him or her your you formal… You may simply clarify by using the name with a personal “a” before it.

For clarification/emphasis Me=a mí Te=a ti Le=a él a ella a Ud. (a Roberto) (a Lola) (a tu hermano) Nos=a nosotros Os=a vosotros Les=a ellos a ellas a Uds. (a Roberto y a Luis) (a Lola y a Carmen) (a mis amigos)

There are lots of verbs like gustar... Encantar (to delight, to love) Doler(ue) (to hurt) Tocar( to be a turn) *There are more, but we will start with these. Don’t forget to work them backwards just like gustar.

Ahora practicamos…. A Justin Beiber le _________ cantar a) gusto b) gustas c) gusta d) gustan
