This week we will be focusing on the benefits and drawbacks—the positive and negative aspects—of new technology. We will be exploring our ideas about technology and how we can support our opinions with facts and observations. Comprehension: Author’s Point of View Your child will read two passages and then determine the author’s point of view. Have your child explain his or her answer. Here are some activities you can do with your child to help reinforce the skills we’ll be practicing. Words to Know: Prefixes Help your child choose a vocabulary word around which he or she can build a story. Then he or she makes up sentences using the rest of the words. Spelling/Phonics: r-controlled vowels Have your child name the words that have the same vowel sound as the word you say aloud. Then help your child identify the letters that stand for the vowel sound in each word. Please, return signed midterms as soon as possible. All make-ups for MAP testing will continue this week. Results will be shared at parent- teacher conferences. Student need to be reading every night for at least 20 minutes in order to stay on track for weekly AR goals. Also, students can take AR tests throughout the school day in the classroom. Also, there is time reserved during ELA class for students to take AR tests during center time. Parent-Teacher Conferences Mrs. Grave’s and I decided to wait until midterms went home Sept. 18 th before meeting with parents concerning student progress thus far. I will be sending a schedule home next week after midterms. Please, let me know as soon as possible if you are unable to attend during your scheduled conference time. Indicated a time that works for your family at the bottom portion of the letter. Please, arrange child care for siblings during this time. I encourage students to attend with their parents/guardians.
