 Definite articles (the) are used with nouns to indicate specific persons, places or things.  Example) The boy is a friend.  Indefinite articles (a, an) are used with nouns to indicate nonspecific persons, places or things.  Example) The boy is a friend. Definite Article – a specific boy Indefinite Article – not a specific friend

 In Spanish, articles match nouns in number and gender.  All Spanish nouns, even if they refer to objects, are either masculine or feminine.  Nouns ending in –o are usually masculine.  Nouns ending in –a are usually feminine.  THIS IS WHY YOU NEED TO MEMORIZE THE “EL” OR “LA” IN FRONT OF EACH NOUN WHEN LEARNING VOCABULARY!

 Definite Articles  Masculine  el  los  Femenine  la  las  Indefinite Articles  Masculine  un,  unos  Femenine  una  unas Example) Los libros son para la maestra. The definite article “los” matches the masculine word “libros.” The definite article “la” matches the feminine word “maestra.”

 To form the plural of a noun, add s if the noun ends in a vowel. Add es if the noun ends in a consonant.  Example)  Estudiante  estudiantes (ends in vowel)  Mujer  mujeres (ends in consonant)
